The Crackle & The Static: Part XIII ‘My Rictus Smile’

Cadaver Club Posted on September 22, 2013 by Mr. CroweSeptember 5, 2014

My Rictus Smile is a song about the traditions of an Irish wake and one particular dear departed soul who hasn’t got time for all that. Life goes on whether you’re dead or not. He was probably very organised and a bit of a pain in the arse whilst alive and sees no reason to be anything else now he’s left this mortal plain. Or maybe because if his ultra-positive attitude, he’s someone to look up to, who knows? Your call. I had real fun writing these lyrics, got plenty of nice imagery in but the music caused me problems. … Continue reading →

The Crackle & The Static: Part XII ‘Do You Dig Graves?’

Cadaver Club Posted on September 22, 2013 by DirgeSeptember 5, 2014

What started as a pun became a song. Then it became the band’s motto. Track 2 on the album, this is our call to arms, where we announce ourselves to the world. It’s fast, it’s catchy and it’s barely 2 minutes long. Featuring tongue twisting lyrics and a big gang vocal chorus, this track is Mr. Crowe’s ode to that big hole in the ground we all end up in. Well, most of us. I personally had a lot of fun on this one, with its trashy guitar solo, and unusual chord progression and cadence. Gang vocals are always fun … Continue reading →

The Crackle & The Static: Part XI ‘Where Dreams Go To Die’

Cadaver Club Posted on September 22, 2013 by Boom Chic ChicSeptember 5, 2014

What a catchy little tune for such a melancholic topic but sure, isn’t that what we do best?! ‘Where Dreams Go To Die’ is an obituary. It is a list of the little deaths we all go through during the course of our lives until finally there is nothing left. This is a perfect call and response song which was inspired by seeing The UK Subs at Rebellion in 2012. As Mr. Crowe and I were returning home from the festival, he already had a few lyrics in mind so we spent most of the journey scribbling down the remaining … Continue reading →

The Crackle & The Static: Part X ‘Sally’s Curse’

Cadaver Club Posted on September 21, 2013 by DraggleJuly 12, 2016

Where to start? All along this song has been the secret weapon. The diamond in the… well the other diamonds but still, ‘Sally’s Curse’ is our epic. We are pretty confident we have this singalong pop punk rock n’ roll thing sewn up, but Sally’s Curse is a complete change of pace. Why you ask? Because it is a fully fledged, baton down the hatches, all hands on deck, sea shanty! A buccaneers anthem, telling the story of a young man who murders his fiancée on the eve of their wedding, only to run off to sea with a crowd … Continue reading →

The Crackle & The Static: Part IX ‘Lunatic In Love’

Cadaver Club Posted on September 20, 2013 by Mr. CroweSeptember 5, 2014

How could you not fall for that beautiful soft glow of the full moon? You couldn’t. That is, you couldn’t NOT. You know what I mean. Think then how hard it must be for a werewolf. A creature, whose very existence is dictated by the lunar cycle. In ‘Lunatic’, our balladeer lays his heart out month after month in the hope that the object of his affections will one night return his love. Deep down though I think he understands there is no cure for his curse and there is no respite. Nevertheless, he will be out there in another … Continue reading →
